Raisu-l-ulama of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina Husein ef. Kavazović welcomed today's decision of the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina Valentin Inzko, which prohibits and punishes genocide denial.

Raisu-l-ulama said in a statement that this was "a long-awaited decision that we all hoped would be made by the domestic state legislature," MINA reports.

-Unfortunately, in the years after the war and after the established facts before domestic and international courts, not only in some circles there was no confrontation with the past, but the denial of genocide and other systematic crimes and glorification of war criminals has only intensified recently. That is why this is an important and courageous step on the way to facing the past, building peace and restoring trust. This is not only a symbolic sign of justice for the victims and their families, but a very concrete step for families who will no longer watch those who escaped secular justice live and enjoy their sacrifice- said the statement of Raisu-l-ulama Kavazović.

It is added that this is a unique opportunity to stop the denial of genocide and glorification of criminals for the sake of future generations, and the opportunity for us all to move forward, pay tribute to all innocent victims and clearly condemn the policies that led to divisions and crimes.
