Improving parliamentary cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Turkey was the topic of today’s meeting between members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly (BiH PA) and members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey.

The guests from Turkey were welcomed by the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Representatives of the PSBiH Safet Softić, Deputy Chairs Obren Petrović and Darijana Filipović, and members of the Committee Dženan Đonlagić, Saša Magazinović and Edita Đapo.

They stressed that relations between BiH and the Republic of Turkey are traditionally good and friendly, saying that the connection and closeness of the peoples of the two countries is evident at every meeting.

They informed the guests about the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasizing that the current political crisis in BiH is primarily caused by the blockade of the legislative and executive branches, after the imposition of amendments to the BiH Criminal Code punishing genocide denial, and on the issue of electoral legislation reform.

During the talks, the guests pointed out that friendly Turkey is committed to the unity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and underlined strong support for the stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity of BiH.

The guests especially pointed out the importance of improving the parliamentary cooperation between BiH and the Republic of Turkey, reminding them of the role of legislative bodies in everyday political life, as well as the growing importance of parliamentary cooperation in overall international relations.

The Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Turkish Parliament conveyed to the hosts a special greeting from the President of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey Mustafa Şentop, and extended an invitation to visit the Republic of Turkey.

Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to BiH, Sadik Babur Girgin, also attended the meeting, announced the Press Service of the BiH PA.
