The Croatian Parliament today, after heated debate, adopted the Law on Foreigners. In the material with over 700 pages, special attention is drawn to provisions that will apply to professional drivers from BiH and the region.
- The key novelty is Article 35, which introduces the possibility of issuing long-term visas of up to 365 days for two categories – for drivers of freight vehicles in international road transport of goods and for bus drivers on international lines between Croatia and third countries. This means that professional drivers from BiH can more easily and long-term enter and perform transport services that are connected with Croatia. It is important to note that it must be about international transport and that the driver must be employed by a transport company from a third country, and health insurance is provided and proof of purpose of stay is required – said Armin Hodžić, member of the Croatian Parliament, to "Avaz".
He believes that the long-standing problem of professional drivers from BiH and the region, at least when it comes to Croatia, has been resolved.
- This is truly a step forward. Drivers' associations have contacted me, I was in touch with institutions here and everyone really tried their best to solve that problem. It was not a problem only for BiH, but also for some other countries in the region, but it affected BiH most because we share the longest land border with it. I hope that in this way we will solve that problem and that people will be able to carry out their work without obstruction – Hodžić emphasizes.
