Komšić speaks with US Deputy Secretary of State Escobar

B&H Presidency Chairman Željko Komšić spoke with US Deputy Secretary of State and US President's Special Envoy for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar.

The interlocutors discussed the European integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Western Balkans. The US President's Special Envoy for the Western Balkans stressed that the integration of the Western Balkans into the EU should be completed as soon as possible because the people of the Balkans are connected to Europe in economic and cultural terms.

The Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina pointed out as an encouraging fact that the enlargement of the EU to the Western Balkans is not excluded. It was jointly stated that EU integration could be a factor in stabilizing the political situation in the region.

Escobar expressed full support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of B&H, and that there is no constitutional possibility for the secession of the smaller B&H entity. He condemned the announcement of the moves of the member of the Presidency of B&H from the RS entities that lead to escalation.

Chairman Komšić, said that he would not fall for Dodik's provocations and that he strictly insisted only on the institutional response and the work of the Prosecutor's Office of B&H.

The US President's Special Envoy for the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, stated that such a leadership approach in solving the problem is what the United States supports.

Chairman Komšić informed the US President's Special Envoy about the police exercise that will be held tomorrow in East Sarajevo, Doboj and Prijedor, in which the RS Ministry of the Interior and gendarmerie of the RS are participating, and that it is clear that this is another provocative move to create conflict, the B&H Presidency said.
