Russia's Oscar-winning film director Vladimir Menshov died on Monday aged 81 after testing positive for coronavirus.

Menshov, who won the Oscar for best foreign film in 1981, died as a result of complications from Covid-19, Moscow film studios, Mosfilm, confirmed in a statement.
-We knew he was suffering from Covid-19, but in a mild form. It is absolutely horrible and unexpected- film director Vladimir Khotinenko told AFP.
-His death leaves a huge vacuum in our shared cultural space- Khotinenko added.
Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Menshov's death represented "a huge loss for our cinema and our culture".
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russian President Vladimir Putin "expresses his deepest condolences". 
Menshov was born in 1939 in Baku, then the capital of Soviet Azerbaijan.
He worked as an actor and then a director and gained international fame for his film "Moscow does not believe in tears" which won the Oscar for best foreign film in 1981.
It was only one of two Soviet films to win an Oscar -- the other being "War and Peace".
Menshov was beloved in Russia for his comedy "Love and Pigeons", released in 1984 and still one of the most watched films on Russian television.

The Duchess of Cambridge is self-isolating for 10 days after coming into contact with someone who later tested positive for Covid-19, Kensington Palace said on Monday.

The wife of Prince William was "not experiencing any symptoms but is following all relevant government guidelines and is self-isolating at home," a royal statement said.

Pope Francis, 84, was recovering in hospital Monday from surgery for an inflamed large colon, a potentially painful condition that could see him bed-bound for several days.

The pontiff was admitted to Rome's Gemelli hospital Sunday for a scheduled operation under general anaesthetic for symptomatic diverticular stenosis of the colon.
Afterwards, Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said he had "reacted well to the surgery".
The Vatican press office told AFP on Monday it expected to issue a fresh medical bulletin around midday (1000 GMT).
A week earlier, on the eve of the feast of Saints Peter and Paul, Francis seemed to hint at the upcoming operation, saying: "I ask you to pray for the pope, pray in a special way. The pope needs your prayers".
The Argentine is likely to stay in hospital for at least five days, according to Italian news agency ANSA.
The Vatican said it could not confirm how long the stay would be.
The pontiff has already put his Wednesday general audience on hold for the summer, and has no other official appointments in his calendar until next Sunday, when he is to lead the Angelus prayer.
Italy's Prime Minister Mario Draghi sent Francis "affectionate get well soon wishes" Monday, as did the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar University, Sheikh Ahmed el Tayyeb, who wished him "a speedy recovery".

The pontiff had arrived at the clinic in the afternoon accompanied by his driver and one close aide, and Italian media said he was in the operating room a few hours later. 
Born on December 17, 1936 in Argentina, Francis lost part of his right lung at the age of 21. He also suffers from a hip problem and sciatica.

In addition, the Medical Faculty in Sarajevo did not submit to prof. dr. Rifat Škrijelj, Rector of the University of Sarajevo (UNSA), certificate of passing the postgraduate exams of Sebija Izetbegović in Zagreb.
15 days ago, Škrijelj asked the Medical Faculty in Sarajevo for documentation related to the academic career of Dr. Sebija Izetbegović, general director of KCUS, but it was incomplete, which is why last week he demanded that it needs to be supplemented and sent again.
On two occasions, the Rector requested information on the Izetbegović's postgraduate study and documentation on the election to the title of assistant, with precise evidence and certificates of passed exams. In the supplemented information, the Faculty of Medicine did not submit a certificate of passing the postgraduate exams of Sebija Izetbegović in Zagreb to the UNSA Rectorate.
The Faculty of Medicine in Sarajevo sent the Rectorate a copy of the Sebija Izetbegović index, which is not relevant proof of her academic education. On June 15, Škrijelj decided to ask for answers from the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb in order to confirm the credibility of the student's transcript, but as it was confirmed to us, he still has not received any answer from Zagreb.
It is illogical how and when Sebija Izetbegović passed the first exam at the "postgraduate study" in Zagreb in 1993.

In her request submitted in August 1994 to the Council for Scientific Research and Postgraduate Studies in Sarajevo, she stated that she had enrolled in postgraduate studies on March 2nd, 1993 at the University of Zagreb - Faculty of Medicine.
The published "Zagreb student's transcript" reveals that Sebija Izetbegović enrolled in postgraduate studies on March 2nd, 1993, and already on March 19th, in 17 days, she passed the first exam.
The real question is when and how Sebija Izetbegović attended classes in the semester, because then the classes lasted for two years. In addition, each semester had a number of lectures and exercises that had to be done in order to take the exam. And that was determined by KUIP inspectors.

In response related to Sebija Izetbegović's education at the Faculty of Medicine in Zagreb, they told for "Avaz" that "by inspecting the list of enrolled postgraduate students in English course "Ultrasound in clinical medicine" of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Zagreb, in the academic year 1992/93, they also found the name of postgraduate student Sebija Izetbegović.

Members of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA) re-entered the University of Sarajevo Clinical Center (KCUS) this morning.
As confirmed for "Avaz" from the SC Prosecutor's Office, inspectors of the State Investigation and Protection Agency are conducting searches at the KCUS on the order of the Municipal Court in Sarajevo, all because of allegations related to the commission of several crimes.
Searches are linked to serious crimes against human health, as well as the crime of negligent treatment, but also abuse of office.
As "Avaz" finds out, SIPA is acting on the criminal report of Damir Koldžo, the lawyer of the Palić family. On June 11th, he filed a criminal report with the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office against the director of the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo, Sebija Izetbegović, and others.
In the beginning of April, Sead Palić's wife Mirela Palić announced in a confession for "Avaz" that she will sue KCUS and the responsible persons for negligence in treatment.

Koldžo then said that he had filed a criminal report with the SC Prosecutor's Office against Sebija Izetbegović, as the director of KCUS, Amela Katica-Mulalić, head of the Clinic for Anesthesia and Resuscitation of KCUS, and other doctors for negligent treatment, abuse of position and authority.
He also reported the health inspector Luka Pirnat, a former employee of KCUS, who is a signatory of all documents as a health inspector of the Federal Administration for Inspection Affairs. Lawyer Koldžo received the documentation on this case after more than two months.

- Gross medical errors and omissions were found, due to which I believe that there is a basis for filing a criminal report - said Koldžo.
We remind you that Sead Palić was admitted to KCUS on March 8th, in the midst of the third wave of the pandemic. He died on March 23rd at the age of 44. After the death of her husband, Mirela received only a death certificate. She received a discharge letter and documentation on the course of treatment only on May 17th.
The request for an autopsy was rejected and she hired a lawyer, and launched the group "Collective lawsuit against KCUS" on Facebook to gather families who share similar fates and gather evidence against this health institution.

There is no solution here, and we have been assured of that by the representatives of the international community, to whom we are grateful, in whom the opposition will not participate. So, as far as we are concerned, and that is shared by the leaders of other opposition parties, we will not raise hands on verisimilitude.

The wearing of face coverings in England will become a personal choice and the data that will determine if lockdown restrictions can be lifted this month was looking "very positive", Housing Secretary Robert Jenrick said on Sunday.

The Ukrainian Parliament, Verkhovna Rada, adopted a law Thursday on indigenous peoples at an extraordinary meeting.

The bill, initiated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, recognizes Crimean Tatars, Karaites and Krymchaks as “indigenous peoples of Ukraine.”
The bill was accepted in the general assembly with the support of 325 out of 345 deputies who participated in the voting.
Russians living in the country, on the other hand, will not be considered indigenous people because they have a state outside the borders of Ukraine.
The law guarantees the rights of indigenous peoples against assimilation, deprivation of cultural values, eviction or forced relocation.
It also guarantees their cultural, educational, linguistic and information rights.
Indigenous peoples of Ukraine will be able to establish their own educational institutions or cooperate with other educational institutions to teach their language, history and culture.
They will also have the right to establish their own media outlets through their representative bodies.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Ukrainian parliamentarian Rustem Umerov underlined that the law approved by parliament is an important and historical document for the country.
Umerov said the Crimean Tatars have been waiting for this law for nearly 30 years.
-Ukraine’s constitution states that the rights of indigenous peoples and national minorities are determined solely by Ukrainian law, but there was no specific law defining the rights of indigenous peoples.-Noting that the definition of "indigenous people of Ukraine" was established by the law, Umerov said that "accordingly, it is determined that the indigenous peoples of Ukraine are Crimean Tatars, Karaims and Krymchaks."
-The law guarantees the right of indigenous peoples of Ukraine to sustainable development as well as to culture, education, language and knowledge- he added.
Umerov noted that the law also determines the legal status of representative bodies of the indigenous peoples of Ukraine.
-Issues related to the international representation of the indigenous peoples of Ukraine were also identified. The adoption of this law is part of Ukraine's strategy for the deoccupation and reintegration of Crimea.-Umerov underlined that Zelensky's personal submission of the draft law on indigenous peoples to parliament is a sign that the protection of the rights of the Crimean Tatars is among the top priorities of Ukrainian state policy.
Russia annexed the Crimean Peninsula in 2014 in a move not recognized by the US, UN General Assembly or Turkey, among others.
